Guidelines

- An application and $30 application
fee are required for each participating KIO strings and
winds/brass/percussion/harp student.
- Participants are responsible for
their own travel, food, and lodging expenses.
- Rehearsals will be held in Wichita
in the Forum and Mediterranean Rooms of the 250 Douglas Place Garvey
Building (part of the Garvey Center on 250 W. Douglas Ave.) near the KMEA
site across Douglas Ave. from the Century II Convention Center (225 W.
Douglas Ave.). Our concert will be on February 24 in the Century II Concert
Hall. Here is a link to a map and diagram of where the Forum and

- Parking is available in the Garvey Center Garage for $ .75/hour from
9:00 am・:00 pm, and parking is free in the garage after 5:00 pm. A map and

On-street free 2-hour parking is
available on the south side of the Garvey Center on Douglas Ave. Parking at
the Century II Convention Center is available on the south side and to the
east by the library for a parking meter fee.
- All
participants are required to bring their own music stand.
All strings
players are required to print off their own strings chair placement
auditions excerpts. PLEASE practice and have the excerpts learned by
Thursday morning strings chair placement auditions.
Strings
players will be given bowed parts upon arrival on Thursday morning, February
23 (1st
and 2nd
Violins will receive their bowed parts once the strings sections and
seatings have been announced at 12:00 pm) for use in all rehearsals and
Friday concert.
Winds/brass/percussion/harp players are expected to print off their own
parts and have practiced their parts before the first KIO rehearsal on
Thursday afternoon, 1:00 pm.
All
percussionists should bring their own sticks and mallets.
A REMINDER: Winds/brass/percussion/harp players do not need to arrive
and register in the morning. Please plan on arriving to register and then
enter the Forum Room to warm up for our first rehearsal anytime between 12
and 12:45 pm on Thursday, February 23.
All participants are expected to play in every rehearsal and the Friday
afternoon 2:45 pm concert.
All participants are expected to arrive
15 minutes early
to each rehearsal and
30 minutes early
to the Friday afternoon 2:10 pm Dress Rehearsal and KIO Concert.
Concert attire:
- Men: solid black tuxedo
or suit, white shirt, black bow tie, black socks and black shoes.
- Women: ankle-length
solid black dress, ankle-length black skirt or full-length black slacks (no
black jeans), black tops with sleeves and a modest neckline, and black dress
shoes.
- KIO participants will receive
Friday KMEA conference badges, which will enable you to visit exhibits,
attend concerts, etc., on that day.
- No
hats or cell phones are allowed.
